Team Expectations

  • Prioritize other activities around practices and games (this includes appointments) 

TRYOUTS:

Date & Time: 

Aug 3rd - 5th, 2026 (Mon-Wed) from 3:30-5:30 pm. 

**This is the first week of school!! 

→ Please get to the gym as soon as possible after school!

*Final cuts will be made on Wed 8/5

Location: 

Lugoff Elgin Middle School Gym 

 → Pick-up will be in the back of the middle school (bus parking lot)

Required: Physical & Paperwork

  • All players must have
  1. A current physical dated after April 1, 2026 in order to tryout for the team. (filled out by parents & a MD, DO, PA or NP)
  2. District participation form (completed & signed by parent & student)
  • **These forms are also needed to participate in summer practices/workouts at the high-school.
  • Turn in physical and paperwork on the 1st day of tryouts OR the 1st day you attend summer practices at the high school. 

What to wear/bring: 

  • Athletic shorts or volleyball spandex, Tennis/volleyball shoes, T-shirt, knee pads (not required)      

-  Hair should be pulled back away from face.      -  Water bottle

*If you make the team: 

  • Team practices will begin Thursday, August 6th, from 3:30-5:30 and will be every day (M-F) after school through the end of the season.
  • There is a $25 district athletic fee and there will be a team shirt fee.
  • The game schedule will be posted when it is finalized.  
    • Games will generally be twice a week (during the week), and there will be up to 2 tournaments on Saturdays. 
    • Attendance at all practices, games, and tournaments is required. 

 

Summer Opportunities: 

*These are optional but good ways to improve your skills and stay in shape. 

 Summer Practices/Workouts at the High School

  •  Hosted by high school and middle school coaches. 

When/Info: 

June 2nd - July 16th on Tues, Wed, Thurs (Times vary but are all in the mornings)

  • Calendar is attached (Link) with dates and times
    • Make sure to be ON TIME (early!) for drop off and pick up!
  • **Join the SportsYou group for updated info and for any changes throughout the summer. SportsYou Code:  U945-U97C
    • *At Weights, middle schoolers will do more body weight conditioning and not as much lifting weights.

Where: 

Lugoff Elgin High School 

  • Weights (workouts) will be in the Wellness Center:
    • Enter through the front door of the Wellness Center.
    • Drop off in front parking lot.  
  • Practices will be held in the main gym:
    • Drop off in back student parking lot (if not at Weights)
  • Pick Up: In the back student parking lot of the school and main gym

*Sand Courts - at Scott Park (222 Battleship Road, Camden)

  • To participate in summer workouts/practices you are required to turn in the following to the High School
  1. A current physical dated after April 1, 2026 in order to tryout for the team. (filled out by parents & a MD, DO, PA or NP)
  2. District participation form (completed & signed by parent & student)
  • *These are the same forms required for Tryouts and will be transferred to the middle school at the end of the summer. 

Clinics/Camps:

Camden High and other places like colleges and clubs in the Columbia area host camps as well and you can find some of those by searching on Google or FB. 

  • Camden High Youth Camp → June 8-10 for rising 3rd-8th graders (Check their Facebook page for more info)

At-home workouts/drills

Communication

  • SportsYou -  At least 1 parent per player needs to join SportsYou, as this is our primary form of communication.

  • 24-hour rule 

 

Practices (if you make the team)

  • Mandatory practices will begin Thursday, August 6th, from 3:30-5:30 pm and will be Monday-Friday (3:30-5:30 pm) through the end of the season (late October)
  • Attendance at practices is mandatory because this is a team sport that relies on cohesion and development.  
    • Parent & player need to notify the coach if they will miss practice before practice begins.  *More than 2 unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the team. 
    • Excused absence from practice: doctor, tutoring, sick with fever, death in the family, or other, at the coach’s discretion. *
  • Please be ON TIME (5:30 pm) to pick up players in the back/bus lot! 
    • After 4 late pick ups, the player will be removed from the team. 

Games

  • The game schedule will be posted when it is finalized.  
  • Games will generally be twice a week (during the week), and there will potentially be up to 2 tournaments that will be on a Saturday. (These are mandatory as well)

Reminders:

  • Physicals are required before participating in any pre-season workout and tryouts
  • All athletic fees are due within the first week of practice 
  • There will be a mandatory parent/guardian and student athlete meeting for all teams - (one for fall sports and one for winter sports)
